Research in strategy and entrepreneurship is increasingly focusing on the sources of innovation, disruption, industry transformation, and business model reinvention. This growing interest in the sources of dynamism and innovation in the strategic behavior of firms calls for closer attention to the processes through which strategists, entrepreneurs, and increasingly designers, generate novel strategies for their firms. These processes are central to understanding the micro-foundations of strategy by attending more directly to the future-oriented and change-generating aspects of cognition, social interactions, decision making, search, communication, discourse, and behavior.
The goal of the conference is to bring scholars working in the areas of entrepreneurship, innovation, strategy, psychology, and design in order to engage in an inter-disciplinary conversation about the micro-foundations of creative strategizing. Â Understanding the micro-foundations of strategy by attending more directly to the future-oriented and change-generating aspects of cognition, social interactions, decision making, search, communication, discourse, and behavior. To this end we are inviting a select number of scholars from these diverse disciplines to a conference hosted at the McCombs School of Business at the University of Texas at Austin.

In 1967, Herb Kelleher founded Southwest Airlines. Prior to this, flying was a luxury and only those that were wealthy or traveling for business used airplanes. With the start of Southwest Airlines, the industry changed. The Herb Kelleher Center for Entrepreneurship, Growth, and Renewal was founded in 2001 to provide resources to others with an entrepreneurial spirit and to encourage innovation; Herb’s vision and passion for positive change are reflected in the Center, both in name and spirit.
